 ANC Confident of Retaining Limpopo Stronghold Ahead of 2026 Local Government Elections


The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed confidence that it will continue to lead in Limpopo following the upcoming local government elections scheduled for *4 November 2026*.


Despite facing electoral challenges in several parts of South Africa in recent years, the ANC remains the governing party across all municipalities in Limpopo. In municipalities such as *Thabazimbi* and *Modimolle-Mookgophong*, the party continues to govern through coalition agreements with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).


Speaking to thousands of supporters during a campaign rally in *Thohoyandou* over the weekend, ANC Limpopo Chairperson *Phophi Ramathuba* reaffirmed the party's belief that its support in the province remains strong.


"Limpopo, Vhembe and Thulamela remain the home of the ANC. There is no dispute about that. Limpopo is the home of the ANC," Ramathuba told supporters, expressing confidence that the party will once again secure a decisive mandate from voters.


As political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the municipal elections, Limpopo is expected to remain one of the key battlegrounds where the ANC aims to protect its long-standing dominance while opposition parties seek to increase their support.


With election day drawing closer, voters across the province will ultimately decide whether the ANC maintains its position as Limpopo's governing force or whether the political landscape begins to shift.
